Astep
The Danish design brand Astep is the company of Alessandro Sarfatti, whose surname has become synonymous with Italian lighting design, especially in the post-war period.
Like all great Italian stories, this one begins long ago—and, of course, it is a family affair.
In 1939, Gino Sarfatti founded Arteluce, a company that for the first time introduced design into the field of lighting.
In 1978, Gino’s son Riccardo Sarfatti took it a step further, founding Luceplan together with his wife Sandra Severi and architect Paolo Rizzatto.
He connected design with technology and developed a new model: collaborating with specialized, talented, and carefully selected industrial craftsmen.
Both Arteluce and Luceplan created one icon after another—lamps that are not only timelessly beautiful but also of exceptional functionality and quality.
Today, Alessandro Sarfatti continues the family tradition. In Copenhagen, he founded Astep, reviving some of Arteluce’s classic lighting models while designing new ones, all produced in Italy, the land of his ancestors.
The name Astep signifies the essential movement of an endless journey—a journey of evolution. It represents a natural yet fundamental step toward creating something better, more meaningful, and more valuable.
Astep embodies our admiration for timeless inventions: objects that, regardless of when they were designed or made, retain their beauty, function, and ability to impact our lives, enhancing the way we live.
